Manheim Township, Lancaster County

David M Mayer House

This 1867 National Register of Historic Places farmhouse stood empty for several years along Fruitville Pike. After a $1.1 M addition and renovation of the 5,800 SF space, this historic farmhouse was adaptively reused for a real estate office for Howard Hanna, utilizing Federal Rehabilitation tax credits.

Adaptive Reuse

The 3-story brick building was restored to capture and highlight the late Victorian, Italianate architectural style. The elevator and ramp additions provide full accessibility to the building, while remaining historically sensitive to the Italianate style including the chamfered columns, blending old with new.

Interior Restoration

As you enter, the original hardwood doors were restored along with the original hardware. The vestibule doors open to a central hallway and the beautifully restored wood plank floors. Additional highlights include the main stairway, the reclaimed handrails, the historically accurate four-panel wood doorway, the plastered arched openings and transoms above the interior doors.
